There are 13 farms along the coast of South Africa. The largest concentration of farms is in the Western Cape and one just north of East London in the Eastern Cape. Abalone is supplied in one of four formats, namely Live/Fresh, Frozen, Canned and Dried.

Wild

Wild South African abalone is strictly controlled and sourced from reputable quota holders. The abalone are harvested by hand using trained divers during limited harvesting seasons. Ocean stocks are replenished in their native environment, without human input, to ensure maximum sustainability. Wild South African abalone results in a completely natural product, with a much sought after grown-in-the-wild taste and appearance.

Live

Live South African abalone is carefully harvested at just the right time. We use experienced staff in approved packaging facilities with strict health and quality controls. Council members use special air transport, so our abalone reaches wet markets and restaurants in perfect condition, as if fresh direct from the sea. Sizes typically range from 50g to 200g.

Canned

South African abalone is canned to combine quality and convenience. We use pure abalone, salt, and water, without any preservatives or additives. Canning preserves the renowned fresh natural flavor, creamy colour, and succulent, tender abalone meat. Cans are sold in varying sizes and contain as few as four pieces to more than thirty pieces of whole abalone.

Dried

South African dried abalone is prepared using traditional processes.

These seal in the sea-fresh flavours and preserve the maximum health benefits. Dried abalone is sold in sizes of 14g to 30g. It is juicy when cooked, ideal for top restaurants or for a celebration feast at home.

Frozen
